Intimate Landscapes are photographs that derive their subject matter from small details within a larger scene. They guide the eye through the composition, asking us to consider what not only lies within the frame, but also outside of it.
A clue to what the Intimate Landscape is all about is contained in the name itself. While a wider scenic view may be more common in contemporary landscape photography, Intimates offer a more personal view of nature because they require a genuine connection between the photographer and the subject. The scale is small, humble, and like poetry, it is the kind of photograph that gets better with repeated viewing, drawing out emotions as the deeper meaning is understood.
